About The Role:

As a Civil Structural Engineer, you will provide structural engineering/technical expertise on foundations for structures and equipment for transmission lines, substations as well as structural steel structures.


What You Will Be Doing:

  • Produce structure and foundation designs, including analysis and design of new or expanding substation facilities as well as the evaluation of existing facilities
  • Develop steel construction specifications for substation packages
  • Review structural calculations and drawings to make sure they are in accordance with specifications and codes
  • Provide technical support and training to drafters, engineering technicians, and less experienced engineers
  • Develop, and maintain trusted relationship with senior level engineers, managers, and executives within Pickett
  • Ability to confidently present technical solutions to key customers
  • Provide timely responses to technical questions and concerns
  • Participate in client meetings and site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
  • Perform QA/QC processes on all design packages
  • Assist other team members in substation engineering functions

What You Bring:

  • Bachelor's in Engineering (required)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification (required)
  • 4+ years of related generation, transmission line and/or substation engineering experience in the electric utility industry (required)
  • Experience with software(s) such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, RISA-3D, STAAD/Pro, MFAD, and other structural analysis programs (required)
  • Strong experience with structural design codes and standards
  • Experience with liaising substation, environmental, right-of-way construction and maintenance stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability in the application of engineering theories and principles
  • Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing, and presenting recommendations
  • Ability to work in a safe manner and always obey safety regulations
  • Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in an unstructured, varied and deadline driven work environment
  • Strong ability to collaborate with team members as well as peers in the electrical utility industry
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation)
  • Demonstrated verbal and technical writing skills
